About ETF

The Easter Theatre Festival stands for the equal access and opportunity of the people of Malawi to participate in and enjoy theatre arts. It aims at providing an annual event for everyone to engage in theatre, education and culture. This will strengthen the theatre arts industry of Malawi.

FESTIVAL PILLARS

1.       Performance

Public access to local and international theatre performances enables creative discussions of social and political issues. Theatre allows for critical, complex and relevant topics to be staged in creative and entertaining ways, thus being an engine for societal change and awareness. By combining established and experienced performers with upcoming young artists, the festival encourages innovation, hence promoting visibility of Malawian culture at international markets.

2.       Networking

Exchange and collaboration are important methods for development and creative business. The festival is bringing together artists, audiences, sponsors and business people from all over the country and abroad to exchange ideas, share experiences and plan further projects. Networking will strengthen the Malawian arts industry.

3.       Education

The potential of education in up-skilling Malawian artists is significant. Workshops in set/light/sound design, stage management, project management, marketing and public relations will develop Malawi’s event production capabilities. Up-skilling promotes local entrepreneurship.
