THEATRE CLINIC EMPOWERS ACTORS

Our initiative made headlines in The Nation! We recently hosted a scriptwriting and directing workshop aimed at developing essential skills in the theatre industry and paving the way for a brighter future. Esteemed actors and directors such as Enifer Chiwaya, Charles Mphoka, and Maxwell Chiphinga, the president of the Theatre Association of Malawi, joined us in this endeavor. The goal: to elevate the quality of productions and deliver exceptional performances at the upcoming Easter Theatre Festival 2025, taking place from 25th–27th April.

Our Festival Director, McArthur Matukuta, highlighted a key challenge:
“There are very few formal institutions in Malawi where theatre practitioners can gain the professional training needed to become writers and directors. Many participants in this workshop had no prior formal education in theatre, so we’re working to bridge that gap.”

By empowering actors and theatre organizations through initiatives like this, we aim to elevate Malawian theatre to an international level.

Maxwell Chiphinga emphasized the importance of such training, explaining:
“Most upcoming artists begin their careers out of passion, mentored informally by peers. This workshop provides vital theoretical knowledge. Scriptwriting is the foundation of any play—it’s like combining the right ingredients to create a perfect dish.”

The workshop was a resounding success for the organizers, artists, and ultimately for you—the audience! Soon, you’ll see the results on stage at our festival.
